“Standing at the Summit, The World Lies at My Feet”

If one word could sum up Xu Xiangyu’s four years at CUHK-Shenzhen, it would be “goal.”

As early as high school, Xu set his sights on a future in the computer science field. From the moment he stepped into university, his path was clear: pursue graduate studies in the U.S. and work abroad thereafter. With these goals in mind, he systematically built his profile — diving deep into major courses, interning at tech giants, and taking part in research. His work spanned cutting-edge areas like blockchain, machine learning, and game development. A transformative exchange experience at UC Berkeley cemented his desire to work and live in the U.S.

Even today, Xu’s aspirations remain unchanged. He believes the way to truly understand what one wants is through continuous exploration and experience. That said, he has not been immune to doubt. Known for his warm, outgoing personality, he once found himself swayed by those who suggested he might be better suited to a business major. But after some reflection, he chose to stay the course in computer science, committing to honing his technical skills throughout his undergraduate years. Though goal-driven, Xu isn’t afraid of change — he’s always ready to begin anew, should inspiration strike.

“A Feather Weighs a Ton — Balance Is Everything”

There’s an ancient saying: “A feather may carry the weight of a thousand pounds — what matters is balance.”

Xu Xiangyu’s composed lifestyle is built on this very philosophy. His knack for maintaining equilibrium is the secret to his steady rhythm of life.

He’s meticulous with study and work, yet never forgets to make time for joy. Thanks to this balance, he avoids both burnout and complacency. A music lover at heart, he often participates in singing competitions and enjoys karaoke with friends. In his freshman year, he found joy in organizing events, joining Diligentia’s House Association and playing a major role in nearly every student event.

As his academic expertise deepened, Xu went on to found the Blockchain Association at CUHK-Shenzhen, serving as its president and leading its development. He set healthy boundaries for himself — choosing one or two meaningful activities to focus on without compromising his studies. This approach allowed him to stay enthusiastic, build skills, and contribute meaningfully to his community, all while advancing steadily toward his academic and career goals.

“Worry Not About the Distant Road — The Winds Will Carry You”

Xu Xiangyu is often described as a ray of sunshine — optimistic, warm, and full of positive energy. In a conversation with his mentor, he once learned how valuable it is for cheerful students like himself to help others process difficult emotions. Ever since, he’s made a conscious effort to be that support system: always ready to listen, always offering thoughtful and heartfelt advice. His empathy has earned him the nickname “Little Angel”, along with many lasting friendships.

He hopes younger students won’t be weighed down by negativity and encourages them to stay optimistic:

“Happy people don’t always go around broadcasting their joy. But when anxious people spread negativity, it travels fast. There will always be shadows in life, and not every environment will meet our expectations — but with optimism, we can light up even the darkest corners and paint a beautiful picture of youth.”

Final Thoughts

As he prepares to move forward, Xu Xiangyu sends his best wishes to CUHK-Shenzhen and Diligentia College — may they continue to grow and flourish. He also hopes that every future student lives joyfully and finds their true direction.
